Liming 2005 "Light of Liming (黎明之光)" Raw Puerh
Light of Liming was launched in 2005 with substantial fanfare and marketing support from the Liming Tea Factory, as their reference-level, premium Bulang recipe. This was before the "gushu" and single origin market trends steered the market away from high-end blends. The attention this release generated was well deserved as it was a solid, powerful and complex blend with superb aging potential.
TASTE PROFILE
The 2005 is recognized in insider circles (especially the HK market) as the one to get (above the 2006 and 2007 versions), as it exhibits a rare level of poise combining the classic rich Bulang bitter core and a sweet fragrant florality.
Hints of the bitter core still remain if brewed hard, but much of it has aged into the slightly fruity preserved plum sweetness, which aged Menghai teas are prized for. Basically it is the culmination of the Liming character in perfect balance. Lovely warming qi. Highly recommended to try and an essential learning step in appreciating aged factory puerh.
SOURCING
We took extra effort to source our stock entirely from super clean Kunming storage, which retains its qi and clarity of character more than many Guangdong stored versions we've tried. If buying for the long term, we recommend spending the extra on the 2005 as the aging potential for the next decade is guaranteed.
[Note, wrappers on this series were extremely thin and fragile cotton paper, some have small tears or imperfections, this is normal.]
