2024 Bohetang
FatBat Private Pressing Puerh
薄荷塘 三类
Bohetang is one of the most sought-after areas in Yiwu for good reason -- the tea gardens here are extremely remote, with access heavily restricted, preserving their perfect ecology and a distinctive taste profile considered the pinnacle of Yiwu-style tea.
Last year (2023), we pressed a pure Grade 2 Ancient Trees picking to showcase top tier Bohetang, but at significant cost. This year, we decided to work with our farmer to pick from the medium and big trees just below the Grade 2 Gushu standard, though still from the core Bohetang gardens. This resulted in significantly more accessible pricing, while the tea strongly retains the characteristics that Bohetang is prized for.
A great option for lovers of Yiwu tea seeking a premium tea for regular enjoyment -- Yiwu fans can consider stocking up several cakes or a tong for longer-term aging.
TASTING NOTES
This is a soft yet heavy bodied, darker toned Yiwu tea, strongly showcasing the deeply wild character of the Bohetang region.
Wet forest canopy, raw honey, trampled moss. Later steeps yield sweet cream laced with green forest fern. Powerful sense of the deep jungle rainforest.
Compared with the Grade 2 Ancient Trees picking, this one adds a touch of underlying bitterness, with a shorter finish and less roundness of soup. The strong sweetness is still present in a very forward, linear profile, unmasked by any woodiness or tannin.
