A well-regarded early production (2nd year, Spring version) of this longstanding blend from Mengku Rongshi. Samples available from our own collection.

Launched in 2005 to massive acclaim, this blend is oft credited with sparking the meteoric rise of Bingdao as one of the most sought-after (and eventually most expensive) puerh tea regions. This legendary cake was made -- at least in the early years of '05-'06 -- from old arbor tree materials in the Bingdao region. These pre-'07 crash pressings are taken by many as  THE benchmarks for top quality Lincang/Mengku productions. Two versions were made, from Spring and Autumn materials respectively. We offer the Spring version.

This perfectly matured tea showcases a beautiful depth and layered complexity. Damp forest undergrowth and sweet mushroom combine with a rich aroma of vintage leather and root herbs. A touch of age-related camphor is apparent in the nasal passages. Broad strokes on the palate and beautifully rounded mouthfeel with a substantial, lasting throat feel. The body feel is subtle but supremely comforting and persistent. A deep, contemplative experience.

Although this blend still exists in name today, the post-2010 productions differ entirely from this early pressing offered here in blend recipe as well as age of tree materials used. (Raw material availability, ecological conditions and other economic considerations have changed especially post-07.) While the newer versions are excellent in their own right, we still highly recommend tasting these early production cakes while still available, to understand the original intent and greatness of these recipes.

We are offering a rare chance to taste this 2006 "Mu Shu Cha" (Mother Trees) alongside the 2006 Wild Arbor King blend of the same year, another heralded vintage. These two highly sought-after vintage teas are known as the "King and Queen" of Mengku Rongshi's lineup, respectively.  Order from the dropdown menu or ask for details.
