Mengku Rongshi 2007 "Mengku Hao" (1st Gen Wrapper) Raw Puerh
[First and Second batches have different wrappers; the 1st batch is slightly more uncommon. Market price for the 1st batch is typically slightly higher as it is perceived by some to be better, but in our tastings, the profiles were very close, with storage (Kunming vs Guangzhou) making a bigger difference.]
This is a serious raw puerh in the classical style; such productions with 14 years of age for this level of pricing are few and far between. Unlike many Shuangjiang Mengku productions which are made for drinking young, this was a strictly old school production using sun-dried maocha (instead of low level oven-drying as with some of their newer products), and has benefited tremendously from aging.
TASTE PROFILE
Skilful brewing will yield a complex, textured broth with an immediate mouth-tingling cooling huigan that goes long. in keeping with the old school approach, there is a hint (barely) of pleasant smoke only in early steeps. Good "hou yun", with the complex interplay between extreme sweetness and the herbal licorice core of aged Lincang material is constantly shifting around the mouth cavity and throat. Pushed hard, bitterness builds up with a medicinal liquorice note and astringency that fades quickly into sweetness, signalling even further potential for aging.
Recommended for old puerh teaheads and those looking to experience aged factory sheng. Compare and contrast with the aged Limings we offer.
Note: Quality on the market varies; our stock is from purely clean and dry Kunming storage, you will taste the difference.
