2018 Mo Lie Old Arbor Raw Puerh
Private pressing from a Taiwanese producer, Shanghai stored.
High quality old arbor tea from this famous Mengku village with and intense mouth/throat-feel combined with surprisingly powerful cha qi and body feel.
This is a premium and very representative showcase of the Mo Lie terroir, recommended for experienced drinkers who are specifically seeking a clear expression of high-end Lincang qualities. One of our favorites from this series.
TERROIR
Mo Lie (pronounced "muo lee-yeah" is a village within the broader Dong Guo area in West Lincang region, south of Bingdao. While Dong Guo has long been a recognized name, Mo Lie in recent years has become the most sought after of this area's teas, showcasing a powerful combination of the region's best qualities, which is "fierce upon first sip, but gentle upon swallowing". This village now commands extremely high prices for their pure gushu leaf, but this 2018 production is still reasonably priced considering only the older trees were used.
TASTE PROFILE
Mo Lie tea is known for its pungent orchid aroma along with a "mountain and wilderness rhyme", expressed as a intense throat feel and long lasting aftertaste. Liquor is thick and syrupy. Less overtly rock-sugar and soft floral than Bingdao-style tea, this is a more exciting expression of the Lincang character.
