FatBat Private Pressing Raw Puerh
2022春 岩子头 生普洱
A bright, uplifting Lincang tea from a village seldom offered anywhere. Pressed as individual Dragon Pearls of approx. 8g each.
This is a 2nd flush Spring, small and medium tree mixed picking. The ecology of these gardens is exceedingly pure with minimal human interference, and this shows up in the clear, pure profile of the tea. Notes of lily flower, candied Chinese winter-melon, tangy pear dusted with icing sugar. A distinct bright and energizing "sunshine profile" (太阳味), testament to the solid processing/sun-drying.
We have been maturing this tea in our China storage for the past few years -- this has resulted in a significant reduction in the typical Lincang astringency and the tea has developed a nice richness. It is now super smooth and perfect for tasting now. This is a tea that is super easy to love and worthy of stocking up for daily drinking.
TERROIR
Yan Zi Tou, also known as "Ai Zi Tou" to locals, is a village in the far west of Lincang Prefecture, right on the China-Myanmar border. Far more remote than the usual Mengku or Bangdong regions, this area has remained very obscure up till today, with tea from here rarely produced commercially as a single-origin offering. In 2021, the Xiaguan Tea Factory showcased a super-premium cake from Yan Zi Tou to try and publicize this region, but traffic to this area still remains scarce. As a result, we have found the ecology here to be pristine and the trees in superb condition with no overpicking. The terroir is very interesting, characteristic of high-altitude Lincang areas like Bai Ying Shan, but with a certain delicacy and low tannin that is charming.
