曼秀古树 2024 春

An interesting opportunity to taste maocha from an under-the-radar Yiwu village. We made a small batch of this tea last year (2024) but have yet to release it officially. During a recent trip back to China, we brought it back with us to share here.

This is a gushu mixed picking from early Spring and is highly representative of this Central Yiwu terroir. It is a puerh with a velvet touch, boasting that honeyed-floral-fruit character and a silkiness of texture that this area is so famed for (think LuoShuiDong, GaoShan etc.). Soft honeydew melon, a hint of jasmine petals and a bright sunshiny finish.

A year of rest has benefitted this maocha and it is in prime condition for tasting now.

TERROIR

ManXiu Village is a stone's throw away from Yiwu Township proper; the tea gardens of this village border those of more famous villages like MaHei and LuoShuiDong. Despite it's strategic location so close to the central hub of Yiwu, ManXiu's relatively tiny production compared to its neighbors has kept it from attaining the same fame.

Still, the village is recognized locally for producing excellent quality tea, having won awards several times over the past few years in regional Yiwu Tea Competitions.
